Default Instrument Cluster Options

2001 TT 180 QC - 68K, daily driver

I'm pretty sure my I.C. is on the way out. First the temp gauge started flaking, actual engine temp is fine, and now the fuel gauge is acting up. I saw a firm BBA - Reman which will repair your existing IC for $250. This is a lot better than the $700+ needed for a replacement, but I'm wondering if starting fresh makes more sense. My center display is fine right now, but I hear a lot of reports of those developing lines and failing too. So the question is, do I get the IC repaired andhope the display doesn't crap out the next day orstart from scratch with a new cluster?

If you plan on keeping the car I would say just replace the whole thing.

I think its horse **** that Audi designed such a SHITTY part and will NOT cover it. - BMW would replace it free of charge. - I know I had a 7 have a cluster go bad. - Not that gauges didn't work....just the small information area started to loose pixels. - With no fighting or arguments it was replaced with few questions asked. - Mind you i've owned a few BMW's ...but still.... Audi refuses to fix it, when its 100% poorly designed.

Audi's customer service has to be the worst on the planet[:@]

I scored a perfect cluster for $130 locally. I just have to pick up a VAG-COM interface to program it.

Sounds like an opportunity to custom design a nice cluster with aftermarket gauges.

Is the ICM actually part of the instrument cluster?

If you have a TT with immobilizer the instrument cluster communicates with the ECU to make sure the VIN's match.

Haha only catch is it's in km/h so it requires reprogramming+switching the speedo's gauge face. Not too big a deal if you ask me. I don't have to deal with immobilizer or anything

If you have a TT with immobilizer the instrument cluster communicates with the ECU to make sure the VIN's match.

Then, the only (main) reason to replace the entire cluster would be due to the failure of the ICM?

Haha, no, if you're talking about the immobilizer, some cars came with it and some didn't. Mostly, it's just a pain in the *** when you want to swap clusters/engines/ECUs, Revo offers a code to disable it.

MY reason for replacing my cluster is a messed up temp gauge, an LED blinking on/off behind 3k on my tach and a proper scrambled center display.
