Default Instrument Cluster Question... Please help!

just picked up a 225 01 tt about a week ago and recently observed the temp to be off as well as the gas gauge. I've read about the class action settlement but what about those new owners (who buy used cars) who were unaware of the recall/warranty. I don't have the paperwork from previous owner as i purchased the car from a dealer. I assume audi will just blow it off. If so I'm thinking a smalls claim court claim may be in order... any suggestions for a new owner would help... thanks for your help in advance...

try just giving whoever you bought the car from a call and see what the have to say about helping you with costs... if that doesnt go over so well then call audi and start from there, thats at least what i got out of the whole cluster settlements

If the cluster failed within six years of the "in service" date, and the prior owner had documentation supporting that, and if i a claim was filed by June 16 2008, the cluster may have qualified for a free replacement under the class action agreement.

Since the claims deadline has past, the cost of cluster replacement is going to run $750-$1500. There is a company, BBA Reman, that will fix the existing cluster for $250.

Yeah mine did the same thing in my 00 TT the gas and temp gauge were off but u can fix those two your self. I just fixed mine over the weekend. Run your car till the display reads 0mps before you run out (make sure your kinda close to home while doing this) I shouldnt have to say that but you never know lol anyways un screw your dash its pretty simply unplug the cluster from your dash , once again easy theres only 3 connectors and theyre color coded. them set both to the first line they are electronical so they may give u slight issues, mine were really touchy. But after that when you put everything back together your good to go!! (my gas gauge was off by more then a 1/4 of a tank and the temp was just slightly off. )

Thumbs up Run that by me one more time

Was reading your post & got lost just after the cluster removal.
How did you set them to zero?
Did you take the needles off of them & move the pointer?
Please clarify for me because I also bought mine after the cutoff & cant get ahold of the previous owner etc.
I am sure I can do what needs to be done if thats all there is to it.
Thanks,
Eric

Sorry yeah let me go in a little more deatil
you do just take the needles off gently and puch them back on so they line up with where they are susposed to be. Like I said they are touchy. After you put your cluster back together they will swing down and move -but when you plug the cluster in again they will go back to where u set them to earlier. so dont try to make them say. It honestly took me 20 mins and they work perfect now. If you have an other question just let me know, im not the best at explaining things sometimes.

Talking It really works!

I just repaired my gauge cluster today.
I took the directions above & performed the operation in about 30 minutes....would have been faster but when I put the cluster back together the first time I pinched the needles down.
I would like to add that you dont have to pull the needles all the way off. All I did was pull them out a bit and swivel them to where I thought they should be and push them back down again....and viola.
One side note...I couldnt figure out how the cluster would remember where the needles were set to and I figured out I would need to plug the cluster back in with the face off to perform the adjustment with the key on and then unplug it to put the face back on there.
I checked it several times...turning the key to on then off to see if it would go back.
I fixed both the temp and the fuel gauges at the same time.

So Far So Great!
Thanks Again,
Eric

Bad news... After I fixed mine -now about 3 weeks later, the fuel gauge is slightly off. The temp gauge stayed put. Let me know if your gauges go back to where they were. GRR now what?

And I dont know why the 1 gauge would and the other is slightly off now...

Question Wierd !

I have not noticed anything out of the ordinary with mine yet.
As a matter of fact I am testing the fuel gauge now.....with a gas can in tow. Down to the 1st red line before E with 375 miles on this tank......seeing how close it is to correct.

Maybe the fuel sender in the tank is dirty....I read a post about that before. I hear it can get a bit sticky with corrosion etc.

I hate to say it but maybe you can give the cluster another try.

Good luck,
Eric
