Default just test drove an 01 tt 225

so yea i just test drove an 01 tt 225 with a chip and boost controller. Let me just say wow it had a boost gauge and was boosting to about 16psi but i had one problem. At around 5-6k rpms it sort of sounded like it was cutting out and once i got the check engine light to come on so idk what that was about. Maybe a bad mass airflow sensor or bad O2 sensors? The car does have 107k miles and the dealer told me the chip was just installed and just had a new timing belt put on. They want 12,300 for the car and i'm very interested but my dad thinks audis will be alot of hassle. Could u guys give me any advice like the good notes on buying an audi to use against my dad lol thankss

A 225 with a chip should be boostin at around 18-20, espeacially with a Boost controller. If the car has a stock turbo inlet pipe, it will collapse at around 5500 rpm due to too much power. Plus if you are in a test drive and a CEL comes on with 107k miles, I would be sceptacle about buying. And yes, Audi's are not cheap but its worth the money. Its up to you though in the end

Do you enjoy tinkering with cars and have the time for it? If you read this forum extensively then you can save a lot of money doing work yourself and finding cheap(er) parts, and you will have work to do with a 107K TT + chip. I'd carefully evaluate the rest of the drivetrain; driveshaft boots, CV joins, trans (how's the shifting, esp. 1-2?). Any suspension clunks or noises, esp. slow sharp turns? How's the gauge cluster? Do the tires have the same amount of wear all around? That's important in an awd vehicle because different tire diameters can cause the Haldex controller to wear out prematurely. If it's been driven hard and you intend to do the same then things will fail earlier, and an over-boosted 225 with that many miles is a bit of a timebomb IMO. But if you enjoy it and can put the time and money into keeping it in good shape, then go for it, but don't say your dad didn't warn you ;-)
