last time i changed both my cars oil and filters, i used the larger Mann (?)filter from ecstuning and now both engines have slightly decreased gas mileage (1 - 1.5 mpg). is this normal? am i trading mpg for engine longevity? thnks

how can you really claim/worry about a 1 mpg? You could just of beenin boost longer, more stop and go driving and so many other variables. I think this is more in your mind. But you do need to give your car a few more min. to warm up the increased amount of oil also.

i didn't really care too much about it in the tt, but my wife had asked me "why is my car not going as far as it used to" for her beetle.

i didn't have an answer other than it was probably something to do w/ the filter, because she noticed it after the change.

just asking man.......

I changed the oil about a month ago in my car, and put a larger filter on. I've been noticing a small decrease in MPG, maybe a fiften mile drop on an overall tank. I never really linked the two together though, because I've been pushing a little harder on the pedal.

RE: large oil filter = lower mpg???
I cannot really see why a higher volume Oil Filter would have any effect on MPG. If the different filter was more restrictive (a bigger filter is likely to be less restrictive due to a great filter area) then the oil pressure would increase but should not cause increased drag on the motor and if bad enough would bleed through the pressure relief value..

I suspect you may have changed your grade of oil. Using a heavier grade can increase fuel use. Either that or the environmental (driver) or climatic conditions are having an influence.
