Default looking at getting a TT, couple questions ??

I have had my A4 for like 2 years now. Thought its time to upgrade. Found a nice 02 TT quattro coupe. They are asking $14,900 and it has 55k miles on it. Its at a dealer ship as a used car. Overall looks very clean, couple scratchs here and there. And what looks to be a chip/bad fixing of damage in the front cover. Drove the car handles excellant, real tight and hugs the corners. Shifts good to my knowledge first TT i have driven so nothign to compare with. At idle and when boosting car sounds great. But when slowing down the front either the axles, brakes or something seems loud. A sort of rolling type of noise. Any ideas what this may be?

Are there certain things i should look for on this model ? From what im researching they make a 180 and 225 model. How do i decipher which is which, i know thats a dumb question. I want to assume its the 225 sinc eits a coupe and six speed stick. Are there problems that are notorious for this car? Off the car fax there seems to be a few hits on it. 3 service records. All it mentioned was at around 19k miles it had misc. service, engine, electrical and brakes serviced. and at 9 k miles it was inspected after an "accident or other incident" noted was repairds to right rear pillar and right center pillar. So that kinda of scares me a bit, but if that means a bit lower price im cool with it. and it have just routine services too.

I plan on taking it to an Audi dealer for a prepurchase inspection kinda thing. I did it with my A4 and everything passed and was good. So i bought it and its treated my well, minus when a women hit me in it. But **** happens. Any information from the TT owners out there, i would love hear anything i can before i get to into buying this car. Thanks alot.

It's a 225. Price is a bit high. I would try to pay $13,300-ish Check to make sure the cluster guages work and try to get the timing belt replaced with the price of the car. 60k service is really expensive. The rest of the info is in the faq.

incase this tt isnt for you when figuring out which is which (180 vs 225) use the following...

225: dual exhaust/6sp
180: single exhaust/5sp

those are the easiest ways to tell

and i would also see if that price can go any lower...

Thanks for the info, i havent had the time to read teh FAQ, been trying to chop trees down from the storms this weekend. I will read them tonight. What should i use to get the price lower? I know the wreck/body work is a sign for that. Im also goign to be taking into an Audi dealer to get looked at cause something was odd about the noise i was hearing. Before i make any other comments i will find this FAQ and read it. Thanks ill be back for sure.

I would either get them to include the 60k service or drop the price to account for it. Usually the dealer wants like $2,400 for the 60k service.

Thanks for the advice. I have looked at the FAQ's and than went back to look at the car a bit more.

Interior wise, buttons electronics etc everything works. Windows move down a bit when you open the door, radio, heated seats. Everything worked good interior wise that i played with which was just about everything. Only thing i noticed with the inside was the obvious drivers leather seat lumbar was worn decent, Not actualy rips/tears. AC and heat worked great. Guage seemed fine other than it would get crazy MPG readings when at a steady speed.

Exterior wise

A few scratches and knicks in the front, Was hard to tell because the entire front end had that damn plastice cover all over it. But front didnt look bad. Passenger 1/4 pillar as stated in the car fax had word done. Something i didnt notce was the pass. wheel well/1/4 had scrapes all around the wheel area. more work was done , You can tell by the brushed in sealer/filler on the seams. Dont know if it was major or just a dent fix etc, deck lid looked good, all glass was Audi glass(which doesnt meant alot). But i noticed on the drivers side the bumper stuck out about an 1/8th of an inch if that. Maybe front the hit on the Pass. 1l4??? from a rear view the hatch alignment looked by eyeing it. Wheels had a vew scrathces, and one had some pitting/flaws others where good enough(winterwheels) lol.

Overall the car looks great runs great to my knowledge. Havent had it to the shop yet that will be wed. But from what i have seen so far i for sure dont want to pay that much. Everyone is guessing around low 13's. Assuming no 60 k service. Obvious body damage/fix, what do you guys think i should be aiming for ? To add i have a 99 a4 5 speed, with 99 k miles on it. Few scratches and dings along the body and just replaces the front control arms and basic tune up. I owe six k on it, and they are only offering at best 5000 for a trade in. Any rways you guys think i can work this to a win win situation ?

Thanks for all advice and info thus far.

$13,300 with the full 60k service (halidex, all fluids (coolant, trans, oil, ps, brake) and t.b. replacement) would be a good price. Otherwise, mid to high $12k's without the service is what I would pay.

Also keep in mind, most people end up replacing the brakes around 65k.

High priced car with known damage and shoddy repairs? Pass.

noise could be differential, i've heard (though no real experience) they rear diff can make some noise, also if it has different tires on front than back it could make a difference and effect the differential. I looked at a 225 with 97k and a missing VIN plate on the dash (weird though it had the vin on the door and elsewhere) and the record was clean. They wanted 12.9k I woulda given them ~11 for it. I've never had problems buyin a car that was in an accident, but if that bothers you don't buy it. Also as said the 60k servies with the timing belt is expensive, i'd say ask the service history, but if you're buying from a dealer then they'll say they have no records, which sucks. At most 13, it's a buyers market and though these are good cars due to mpg's/style/performance, get your moneys worth!

Thanks for the comments. I have been in touch with a VW/Audi place here in cincy, Dubwerx or however its spelled. They are going to take a look at it and look it over for me. Have heard nothing but good things about em. I can live with the car being damaged/repaired. I just hope it didnt effect anything. Hard to tell really what happen, could of been a simple dent repair for all i know. Im mainly worried about the gauges/dash problem i have heard about. And the 60k service too. I wouldnt mind doing the work myself as i find it fun. But im hopefully going to be able to use it as a bargain chip. I beleive im taking it in to get checked out thursday hopefully. So ill keep you guys updated on what they say to get your opinions as well. Thanks again for the comments/help, you guys have been a great help thus far.
