Default Loss of Power - Check Engine Light

Hey guys,

I was driving home, and I was getting on it a little bit, either 3rd or 4th gear - full throttle, around 6K RPMs the car bogged, and check engine light flickered every time the car bogged. At this point, I pull over, listen to the engine, and everything seemed fine with normal driving. When I started the car again, and then proceeded to test the car, it seems that every time I would go full throttle, it would bog at high RPM's. Now the light is solid.

I have a warranty on the car for power train, so I'm going to check it out tomorrow. But figured maybe some of you guys may have some insight on the situation.

Thanks,

2001 225QC

Plugs or coils. Check your plugs first.

It's worth noting that I was driving for about 35-45 minutes with AC on before turning it off and then the above happened.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply - Would a failing turbo produce the same result?

From what you are describing are the classic symptoms of bad plugs or coils. Do you have a scanner? Check your codes if you do. This happened to me once...car was running fine for a nice long drive. I was within a few miles of my house when mine started to do the same thing. The car would bog at high boost but was fine under a slight load, shifting around 3-3500rpm. If you are wrapping it up to 6k and it is doing this and the CEL is flashing (STOP)....most likely plugs or coils. If you get it scanned you will see codes for misfires. Four NGKs will run youless than $20. It takes a whole 20mins to change out.

Keep in mind however that gapis for chipped cars. If you haven't I would replace the plugs anyway.

Me: "You said you gave this car a full tune up?!"
The guy at the dealer: "It's not spark plugs, they wouldn't throw a Check Engine Light".
Me: "Yes they would"
The guy at the dealer: "Are you a mechanic"
Me: " No. OK, give me the codes when you get them. I'm the ******* if it's not plugs, if it is, you're the *******.."

I hope he's wrong! And I hope someone here can translate them so I can tell if he's lying. The guy is a dick. I hate salesmen (Sorry if you're a salesmen).
