Lowering TT.
I'm thinking about purchasing some lowering springs to lower the TT. I'm wondering how much of a drop is recomended. I'm thinking about doing a 1" drop or maybe a little more. Also wondering which brand is the best bang for the buck. Pictures would be nice showing various inches of a TT lowered.
If you only want to lower 1' there is good news and that is you won't have to buy an alignment kit. Simply aligning it after lowering will be fine, I recommend a specialty sports car shop for all alignments on lowered cars as they do a much better jobs than the local meineke. The KW Sport kit and Eibach Springs with Koni or Bilstein Shocks will offer great bang for the buck. If you want to get coilovers a lower stance will be neccesary as will an alignment kit. I hear if you go lower than 2' you have to buy a more expensive kit but I do not know if this is true as I don't like such low cars anyway. I have KW Variant 1 coilovers but regardless of the brand most people seem to be satisfied with their coilovers. I heard a rumor that Tein is currently offering their new coilovers at a reduced price in order to make a strong move into the Euro scene so they might be worth contacting. I had Teins on my Nissan and they were very good.
OK kinda of a *** question here but I have noticed that I feel all the bumps now and my car is 5 yrs old and Im sure I need to change my springs or whatever is in there. My question is what do I need to replace in the front and back to get my ride back to handling bumps again and I want to lower it 1 inch? And Im looking for the least amount of $$$ spent. Im just not sure what is used and what needs to be replaced. Thanks.
If you are thinking about lowering the car you'll have to do all 4 corners at once. You have two routes to go with this:
[ol][*]Spring/Shock combo: PRO- Lowest cost; CON: Fixed drop, Cannot corner balance, potential for shock/springs to not be matched.[*]Coilovers: PRO: Fully adjustable height; options include adjustable dampening or dampening/rebound, corner balance is an option CON: Price[/ol]Remember, you can lower a stock Quattro about 3/4" without any camber kit on the rear. If you lower between 3/4 and 1-1/2 you can get by with a set of Forge or ECS lower arms or a 1/2 KMac kit. Greater than that you'll need a combination of the lower arms and a 1/2 KMAC on the top or a Full KMAC kit to get the rear camber and toe back to spec. The front suspension has enough adustment to get camber and toe back into spec with as much as a 2" drop.
