Default MAF Nightmare

Yes, I have searched the forums, with little to no result. 2001 TT Roadster 1.8 FWD basic.
Has thrown the code P1128 for months! Removed MAF, cleaned multiple times. Car starts well, idles well but cuts out and hesitates when attempting to enter freeway, passing, etc. In addition to CEL, Traction Control light now on. According to these forums, another symptom of a bad MAF. Now also throwing code P0102. So I bite the bullet and buy a new MAF and installed it. Traction Control light now off. All codes cleared. Car still cuts out and hesitates. Only 45,000 miles. No other vacuum leaks that I can find. So, on maiden run after being disappointed with the new MAF, unplugged the %*!# thing...OMG...what performance! (Probably need a neck brace now.) Obviously by unplugging it , the problem is the MAF, right? Is there a performance MAF? Have I overlooked something? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Is it cutting out at high boost? If so could be something as cheap and easy as your plugs.

Could be a number of things.. unpluging the MAF forces the ECU to revert to a preloaded MAP, ie: its guessing.

Check out the wiring, though people have gotten bad MAF's new.
