If you already have a boostmachine would it benefit you to get one of these MBC's or does the boost machine do pretty much the same thing?
I hate to spend more money on a similar mod if I don't have too.

Also Cincy referring to your other thread. What is a gear dependent EBC?

a boost machine is a manual boost controller, you can use one or the other, not both.

I wasn't going to use both of them. I was just wondering if one is better than the other. Besides the size there really
shouldn't be much of a difference, right?!

If you can sell your BM and get around a $100 dollars from it than you can buy the turboXS with no money lost. maybe not worth it since they both controll boost, but the turboXS is a better unit.

Some ebc's and standalone ems have a gear or speed dependent boost controller. It basically lets you run low boost at lower speeds/gears so you can gain traction and the high boost in higher gears/speeds when traction is there. Its great for people like me with fwd and that have (or in my case, will have) lots of power.

The hpbc is a better unit, but like lucas said, only worth it if you can get most of your money back from selling your BM to another sap... i mean potentioal buyer.

Maybe the chip you have limits the boost to 18psi regardless of the boost controller.
What is the limit usually on the 180's? Cincy will know.

Won't turning up the boost eventually put the car into 'limp mode'? Also, are you increasing boost without touching timing or fuel? Can someone enlighten me?

I believe the timing and air/fuel mix is addressed by the chip/programming and the ECU.
Not sure about the 180hp TT's but on the 225TT's on the stock Turbo there is no need
to turn up the boost much past 22/23 psi. Anything past that just heats up the Turbo and
wont gain you anymore performance. The boost controler biggest function is to smooth out the
Boost Spikes and give you more linear performance by reducing lag and changing the onset of the boost itself. When properly set there is hardly any noticable lag and you will have a very smooth increase of power throughout the powerband. More isn't always better especially when it comes to boost. There is a fine balance and if you go past that line you are only hurting performance and your engine and yes it will go into limp mode if you push it past it's limits.
