Default Mirror Control Switch - You're Kidding - The Fix

Broke the side mirror control switch while washing my car the other day. In looking for a replacement the price is outrageous......@$90. Anyone have a better source ? This turned out to be an expensive car wash. Decided to try and fix it.

The Fix.

Used Dremel to clean out the broken plastic post. Some Super Glue, and a cut off nail. Now, stronger than stock. This will never break again.

Heh, it amazes me how Macgyver-esque Audi/VW owners are.

I swear there is nothing zip ties, WD-40, and other common garage items can't fix!

thats so funny I did the exact same thing while I was wiping my door handle down. i was going to do the $60 dollar replacement but this seems way more inexpensive.

I think ttstuff.com has an aftermarket replacement.

They only offer an aluminum cover for the existing ****.
The problem is that if you break off the ****, you have to buy the whole switch. With "aggressive" cleaning, in my case a tap from a cleaning rag, the plastic stem on the OEM switch will eventually break.

lol. my mirror is straight up broken... I have some glue holding it in place right now.... looking for something a little more permanent. Found out after i bought the car the kid had some double sided adhesive holding the mirror in the housing... friggin little bastard...

get on car-parts.com and see if you can get a switch on there.
