Default Mod FAQ

I've noticed that 90% of people in the forum, have the same mod list. (different brands, but same components nonetheless) I've also noticed that there's a hell of a lot of questions from aspiring TT modders on alot of these components.

Unfortunately, I have not installed any of my mods yet so I would probably be the least qualified to do this (Well that may not be entirely true). I think it'd be cool to have a Mod FAQ that goes over in some detail on each mod, it's purpose, theory of operation, difficulty, etc etc. Some people on here have an enormous wealth of information on these cars and the principles of operation. I think there are members on the forum, newer members (including myself) that may not know the reason for upgrading some of these components and the benefits associated therein.

As with any FAQ, not all new members will read it first, but it would probably cut back on alot of the same questions being asked over and over. For instance... any member that feels froggy could pick a component and give a description for what it is, where it is, the faults inherent in the stock version of the component and the ins and outs of replacing it.

Just an idea I guess, but anything to get more knowledge out so people make better decisions before buying a bunch of stuff for their cars that they may or may not need or aren't proficient enough at vehicle maintenance to "do it yourself" it.

Possible components (components I see frequently on everyone's mod-list):
[ul][*]Diverter Valves (DV)[*]Intakes (TTDA, VTDA)[*]Mass Air Flow Sensor housings or sensors (MAF, ****)[*]Silicon Hoses (Turbo Inlet, Coolant, etc)[*]Brake Pads, Calipers, Rotors[*]Teflon Bushings (suspension type)[*]Coilovers[*]Dogbone Mounts (I still dont know what that is for)[*]Sway Bars[*]Strut Tower Bars[*]Haldex Controllers (Blue, Orange)[*]Boost Controllers (MBC, Boost Machine)[*]Boost Guages[*]Exhausts (Downpipes, Cat-backs, VES)[*]Catch Can (wth is that anyway?) - ty achTTung[*]Front Mount Intercooler[*]Oil Coolers[*]Big Turbo Kits[*]ECU Chip[*]EVO Intake Manifold Heatshielding[*]Turbo timers[*]Camber Kits[*]Short Throw Shift Kits[*]4 Bar Fuel Pressure Regulators[*]UnderDrive Pulleys[*]Injectors[*]Plugs[/ul]
I just received my first shipment of parts for my modding. I am holding on a.) the rest of the parts to arrive and b.) My car to arrive from international transit from America (that makes it much easier to work on lol) Once I begin, I will also add my two cents to all this as I will have more room to talk about such things once I've done them.
Food for thought

Default RE: Mod FAQ

Seems like a decent idea.

BTW, a catch can catches oil particles and whatnot that are vented from you engine back to your airbox, normally they are recirculated to be burned with crankcase fumes along with the intake charge, but thats how you end up with all that nasty crud coating your intake. With a can, the fumes coming out pass thru, but as they swirl around in the can, the oil sticks to the walls there, and only the fumes continue on to be burned.

There, i even provided an entry for ya.
