So last night, I was being dumb and I accepted a street race.

Started on an on ramp with a firebird...a newer one. - Rather fast car in a straight line, but I kept up with him,... anyways as we started bobing and weaving through traffic you could see where the TT man handled his car. - That thing cant corner or move around for ****! - Ha... well ****. - Anyways as I was pulling a head, for some reason I threw the car back into 3rd instead of 5th. - Yeah.. - Anyways it was only for a mili second..heard the engine rev like a mother...and I knew that I was in deep ****...so I threw my clutch peddle down to release the clutch from the engine.... everything appears to be ok... no rough idle... no nothing... but it did scare the crap out of me... I believe I hit 7.5k

Do you think there could be damage that I wont see for awhile? - But she drove fine all last night after the event...intown driving and hwy...this morning she drove just fine to work.... had the same hard pulll etc.


Am I ok? - Or could I be looking at trouble down the road?

 

I'm guessing youre okay but the ECU probably logged an over-rev.

 

Can I get the ECU wiped? - Also second question noted there. - My car is chipped... I've heard it raises the rev limiter...can you shift in the red with the APR chip?

 

A flash does raise the rev limiter. You should be okay.

 

Good deal. - Do you know what the rev limiter is raised to? - Because I might have just caught it in time....but it seems like I could have thrown it all the way to the max if I didn't watch out.

 

I'm not certain, but if you hit it you'd know.

The stock head can go to 7.5-7.9k safely. After that, your pushin your luck. So im sure either your rev limit kicked it like it should or you wouldnt of gone past 7.5k. If you did damage, your head would be toast and you would know right away.

 

my understanding of the rev limited is that it will keep you from pushing past the limit by cutting fuel, etc... but if you drop from 5th to 3rd when 5th was pushing 6500 rpms there is nothing the limiter can do... tell me if I'm wrong.

 

Rev limiter doesn't buy you anything in a missed shift. It just controls fuel and/or spark. You're lucky it didn't hurt anything, cause you would have known right away.
