you are suppose to use 5w40 all year round. The mobil1 0w40 is also a approved oil by vw/audi. You should use either all year long

Slightly off-topic but..Did anyone else read the gear oil article by Amsol that's posted in the FAQ section ?? I'm now re-thinking the Royal Purple 75-90 I changed out and going with Redline or Mobil1. The RP results looked pretty lame.

Why would winter be any different than summer? The TT with it's turbo will get HOT very quickly regardless of the outside temperatures.
I would recommend 0W40 Mobile One. It flows well in summer and in winter.

mobil=problems. more and more we are finding problems with cars that are running mobil one. latest instance this weekend, tiptronic s4 with a SAI incorrect flow problem, oil sludge buildup in combi valve, and asscociated check valves and vacuum lines.

Viscosity is affected by heat and cold. I run 5w40 Castrol.

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the oil. First you have to see how long he has been running Mobil One. Sludge is not an overnight problem. I bet he ran regular dino oil for
a while where the sludge problem started or perhaps he neglected the oil and never checked it or went too long between oil changes. All reasons for sludge build up.
If you check your oil and change it on a regular basis especially with synthetic type oils there will not be any sludge build up. Mobile One 0W40 European Formula is one of
the best flowing oils on the market which will never cause sludge build up if changed on a regular basis. Just read all the threads on it on the Porsche and other High performance
forums and also Bob the Oil guy site. I don't think there is a better oil out there for the TT.

..... True German Castrol. Hard to find, but recommended by Bob.
