I second the Hawk ceramic comment. Low dust and very quiet. Good for street use.

 

I'm going to work on my brakes done this week. They are squealing like crazy but i didn't notice till now with my windows up all winter. ^^ thanks for the suggestions. I hate all the brake dust from my stock pads.

 

squealing from grime, or squealing because you don't actually have any brake pad material left, and its metal backer against metal rotor?

If your rotors are grooved, you'll need to replace them as well.

 

Well it looks like a good amount of pad left but they are squealing when im not even touching the brakes. I feel like they might be dragging sometimes. So there will probably be more work than just pads. Last couple times I drove I touched the rotors when i got out and the front right one seemed quite a bit hotter than the rest. I jacked up and spun the wheels. rear passenger side drags half way around and makes a squeal noise. Rotor must be slightly warped.

What do you mean by grooved?

 

deep channels cut into the rotor as opposed to being smooth...

 

i also want the hawk pads with the zimmermann rotors those anyone know where to get them at the best prices? it seems as if i'm gonna have to order them from two different places. also what is the deal with the wear sensor?

 

either get pads with the wear sensor, or get pads w/o the sensor, and cut/twist the sensor wire together to complete the circuit.

smart move would be to cut the wire on teh pad side of the connector, so that in the future if you wanted to go back to a pad w/ sensor, you still have the connector in place.

I had zimmermans on the old TT, bought them from ecartoys.com, which appears to be down for maintenance/upgrades. I had a discount code at the time for joining their fledgling forum, and it let me get the rotors for $175 shipped. Hard deal to match, but good luck with that, it was almost 3 years ago that happened.

 

How hard is it to change the front pads? 2001 225 quattro

 

not hard at all, basic tools. rear brakes, slightly harder, the brake piston needs to be turned as its retracted. The fronts just push in. You can use a C-clamp, or spend a couple bucks and get a retraction tool. I think its worth the money to get the tool kit from ECS, as you'll need something like it to ever do the rears w/o fighting with the car.
