new to forum, my tt died and I need help
No itscan be a DIY you just have to make sure that you are really careful and pay attention when aligning back up the belts. That is about it and make sure that you take you time and dont rush anything. I plan on doing it this winter.
I thought it wasnt really the timing belt that went bad but some plastic piece that breaks causing the belt to then break then causing major engine damage. The new kits now have replaced the plastic piece with a metal piece so I would think that the belt should last 100K now. So if you have replaced it then you should be good for a long time.
The plastic part that your talking about is the actual impeller on the water pump, and yes the new ones come with a metal impeller, however some timing belt failures are due to the timing belt tensioner. That part is a OEM replacement if you get it from ecstuning or dieselgeek so every 60K you will want to change your timing belt in case the tensioner has a failure. You can let it go if you want but I would strongly recommend that it changed every 60k miles. But hey to each his own...
