Hey, im picking up my 2001 audi TT 225 6spd 70k miles on saturday.....i had a few questions:

1) should i use fully synthetic oil when i change it and how much should i generally pay for it? does it make a difference?

2) how hard is it to install a boost gage and is there a DIY for it?

3) what are some simple not to expensive mods to start with? thanks

2) how hard is it to install a boost gage and is there a DIY for it? Easy and there are plenty

3) what are some simple not to expensive mods to start with? thanks Chip $500 but huge gains

Much cheaper if you do it yourself, have fun with the filter. I've seen the easiest is to go through the bottom but some take it out of the top. You shouldnt use anything other than sythetic.
Also at that mileage, you should most definitely check to see if the timing belt was changed, if not that would be my first thing to do.

You either have to ask the seller or check its history and I dont believe its covered cause audi says it doesnt need changed until 100k but many have had it break at 60k and costs thousands to fix.

The timing belt itself is covered up to 105k miles, but the problem is w/ the OEM water pump. They have plastic impellars, which can break. Mine didn't fail, so I'm not sure exactly how it causes the catastrophic engine failure, but if it does you're looking at minimum $5000 repairs. Unfortunately, many here can vouch for that.

Get it done ASAP, as most issues occur at 50k - 60k miles. DIY kit from dieselgeek.com, or look to pay someone around $1000 for parts + labor. It'sa sucky DIY job though. I got the wonderful opportunity of doing it during the 100 - 110 degree heat wave w/ no garage...

Count on best time 7 hours to possibly 14.

The tensioner sucks, thats what causes the problem and then your exhaust valves slap the pistons. So you then have to replace valves and smooth out the pistons or replace them (depending on damage) and pay for all the labor.

the water pump causes issues because it seizes and that in turn rips teeth of the timing belt... a timin belt with no teeth = no timing = valves crashing into pistons.. etc.

liten up and listen well....
i recently bought an 01 tt 225 92k on it
it's in the shop now for a tb.
1. if the stealership cannot produce a copy of the work on the tb job, do it now, please do it now......
i've had mine for a mere two weeks and it's in the shop already. for atb and head gasket as they needed to verify i didn't mess anything up. luckily i was just idling. please just do the tb now.....

mikefc626,
you mentioned 105 on the tb is this in bw as per audi guidance? if so , and this is for everyone.....
if it does say so and the belt loses a few splines on it like uhmmmm 5 inches worth.
would that be a guaranteed item and rpairs to whiocheveri t messes up is upto the dealership to fix?
sorry for the hijack evevryone.

back on point to vivanov1,
boos gauge install is very easy, though not hip to the tt lingo till after reading a few and a lot of help from everyone here, i was ablew to do it in a about 2 hours, but it could be less, it was hard deciding where to mount it.

got to the faq and basic tt info on top of the forum and it'll tell you it even has pics.
good luck and happy boostin'
