Newer owner, strange problem
Good Afternoon,
I recently picked up a 2001 225, 53k on the clock. I has been fine up until Monday. I pulled into my driveway and shut it off for a few minutes and then started it back up to leave.
As soon as I started it, I lost all the power to my instrument guages, lights, readings etc .... Even some of the lights appear (functionality) to be out in the stereo unit, not all but some of the button lights (really bizzare).
Due to a tight schedule, I had to drive it despite no speedo, tach, fuel, etc ... and it seems to run fine. Within minutes, my CEL came on, and has stayed on these past couple days. A good friend and fellow TT owner said to try (wasnt sure if it would work) to have a local auto zone try to reset the codes and maybe that would at least bring the instrument function back, until I discovered the real problem.
Last night I pulled into an Autozone and the tech came out and let meuse his, the device kept saying error, it could not read the data from the OBDII. Tried twice, same thing.I plan on going to an indy and see if they have a bettercode reader, I am trying not to get raped for $50 charge to have my ocdes read if thisis not even a 50% possibility of working.
Really puzzeled. Anyone ever hear of this? Experience this? Thanks very muchfor any leads.

Resetting the codes will not cure your issue, the codes are thrown to tell you of the error. I would bring it into a cert. VW/AUdi repair shop if you are not able to troubleshoot yourself to get the issue taken care w/o just throwing money at a problem trying to solve it on your own. I am a car guy but electrical issue aren't my thing and I know my limits.I do know that the clusters are known to go bad in these things and they are a few $100 to have replaced. This may be the issue but maybe not due to the fact the OBD port couldn't even give the reader a connection or the guy didn't know what he was doing. A code reader is a very easy device to use. If they charge you you can buy a generic reader for about $30. They are pretty useful. Most shops will do it for free however.
hmmm perhaps a relay? or maybe the circuitboard to your cluster? hopefully the cluster itself isnt damaged bc those can be a bit pricey unless you part it out yourself.
but whatre the odds of a TT being in a junk yard [&o]

might be worth looking at the fuses
but maybe:
the car is in immaculate condition and needed nothing which is why I traded my 7 series for it.

Are the relays hard to get to?
Thanks for the insight. I am going to pull the panel off this weekend and have a look. I did check the fuses, but not all of them (obviously). Which two would have to have blown?
