O2 sensor - intermittent code
Hi guys and gals,
just remembered i wanted to post about the only error code i found when having the car APR'd over at Achtuning in Redmond, WA. It came up as having an 'intermittent fault, Bank 1 Series 1' if i remember correctly, which i was told by their mechanic was the O2 sensor pre-cat...
I seem to remember reading somewhere that a faulty or intermittent O2 sensor reading can actually be a phantom symptom that the MAF is on its way out? mine has done 120k still on the original MAF i believe... does this ring true or am i dreaming again?!?
I've said it before but im going to say it again.... i love my APR! haha ;o)
Also, can anyone confirm if i need to change the gap on my spark plugs to get the best out of the APR? or is that an old wives tale?

If you got chipped with any of the other brands you be saying you love them also...LOL
With a chip you need to drop the gap of the plugs to .028 to prevent misfires in higher rpms and it also helps if you go to a colder plug when you install more bolt ons like you mentioned in your other thread.
As for the code, w/o the number or what it means, its kind of hard to answer that. A primary o2 code can be triggered by a vac leak, dying o2, and sometimes a maf. A boost gauge is a good way to see if you have a vac leak, unplugging the maf and seeing if it runs better is a good way to test that, and if both of those check out and you still get a code, its time for a new sensor.

Thanks for the reply,
What plug would you suggest? I'm presuming to gap I just buy some feelers/plug gap tools?
Yeah I guess your right on the chip front, but I do love it! Haha.... I will see if the code comes back when I pop over to the tuning shop.
Anyone used any dp from eBay and the like? False economy? Its funny that blueflame are popular here in the USA as the factory is 5 mins from my home in my native England!!

ok cheers i will check it out!.. i knew i had read it somewhere but couldn't seem to find it on a search....
Shame about the ebay downpipes.... DD seems to be a tad expensive?! is it worth the extra for the high flow cat? or is the original good enough?
Also, Schucks has the autolite spark plugs in for $1.69 but the NGK's are $3.59 a piece... the Denso's are even more, what are peoples experiences?

The NGK BKR7's are ~$2/plug and work very well. If you need a cat, you need theirs, the stock awd cars use a twin cat setup and cant be used with the 42dd's. The cost is high becuase they are hand made and the only ones produced since the demand isnt that high compared to other models.
