Default oil pan drain plug issues

Hi , I have a 2004 TT Quattro that has a stripped oil pan drain plug. I see that Oreillys has the oil pan for about $90.00. It looks like the oil pan should come off with not much effort or am I not really seeing what might be a real bear of a job? Does the engine have to be jacked up or anything like that? I just didn't want to go with using a larger self taping drain plug so as to avoid the obvious shaving of aluminum that could end up in the engine from installing a self tapping plug. Any help or advise would be appreciated.
Thank you
Johnny

Fortunately, I have not had an issue with my TT however, my previously owned cars from Audi's parent company (Volkswagen), I had to replace the oil pan on both - A 2000 New Beetle and a 2002 Jetta TDI. I bought both new and sold just last year. To answer your questions, Yes, the car needs to be on a lift. Do not buy a "generic" oil pan. Wether you plan on keeping or selling it, buy OEM or OEM direct fit by a recommended distributor.

Thank you for your thoughts. I ended up letting the guys at Christian Brothers Automotive do the job for me and they used a Audi OEM oil pan. Pan and all labor was a total of 400 bucks.
