Default PO171

So my CEL has been on for a few weeks showing the code PO171. I posted before and many of you told me to check my MAF. I had some other service done recently at Audi (shifter snapped off) and while they fixed that they diagnosed the CEL Code to be a bad DV. When I asked them why or how they came to this conclusion the tech looked at my dumbfounded and really couldn't answer the question. I explained to him that if I unplugged my MAF and cleared the code my car ran perfect. Still no explanation.

Finally this weekend I was able to take the MAF out, clean it, and replace it. This did nothing immediate to clear the code or enhance drivability. However after driving about 85-95miles the CEL went out and the perfomance came back.

Based on this do you think that I have fixed the problem and shouldn't worry about the DV? Any other signs that I could see that would show a bad DV?

Thanks for your help.

if its working i wouldnt get in there and mess with it right now, i think you would be better off to just keep an eye on things. if it does act up again then we can swap in a spare dv i have sitting and see what happens.

dirty MAF sounds like the culprit

P0171 = system too lean, bank 1 probable causes are intake/exhaust leak, AIR system, MAF sensor, fuel pressure/pump, injector(s), HO2S heated o2 sensor
