Default Problem with new gauge....Help Plz

I bought the 3404 Autometer gauge and nicely installed it in the vent. The lighting works when turning headlights on, and it is mounted nicely. When im at idle and rev it, the needle does not move at all. When im driving in 2nd and 3rd gear WOT, the boost spike to 10psi, and sustains around 8-9 psi. Problem?

Should have got one that reads vacuum also. The gauge is acting normally. If you had one that went into vacuum you would see that the gauge is reading -15 or so at idle then if you give it gas it will go up to 0. You can get it to boost by pressing the gas but normally it needs to be under load, which is why you see it move when you are driving.

Take it back and get one that reads negative.

8-9 psi under WOT is typical for a stock 180.

Is your vac line crimped in the vent?
Had that happen to me. I had to make a little notch in the air duct so the line wasn't pinched.

Or claim it as broken and bring it back. Then get one that reads in. hg.
Vac leaks are just as common as boost leaks... It's good to know when you have one.

I bet you used that crappy hard nylon line they gave you huh? Replace it with some nice thick walled vac hose from the parts store...costs you a couple bucks. That hard line loves to kink and coil.

To fit the new vac hose over the gauges nipple....I used my dremmel to "hog out" the end. I then ditched the compresssion piece and was able to secure the hose directly over the nipple on the back of the gauge.

At the FPR (if thats where you tapped) you no longer need the boot reducer they give you. You should be able to run the line directly to the 3 way tee.

I have some of that hard hose crap.. i agree it is crap, but will it actually make you loose boost ? Or are you saying just if it is crinked
