Default Purchasing First TT

I'm in the process of purchasing my first Audi TT Convertible and was looking for some input from some current owners.

The two cars I'm down to are

2001 Audi TT 1.8T Roadster Quattro with 44k miles for $17k. It's in excellent aesthetic condition and the dealer is willing to replace the timing belt, tensioner pulley and water pump before delivery. I've checked it's Carfax and it is clean.

2005 Audi TT 1.8T Roadster Quattro with 60k miles for $19k. Again, this car is in excellent condition, though it is due for a timing belt change which pushes the price a bit higher.

I've done a lot of research, but would appreciate any input. Are there any known issues with either of these models that would be a red light to avoid them.

Thanks for any help, advice.

The only real issues are the timing belt and eveything else that goes along with that job. e.g. water pump...

If that stuff is done, the oil has been changed on a regular basis, and the haldex unit has been services.. thats really all you have to look for imo. Check the haldex service records.

Also see if it has had its recalls done, i believe the MAF... i could be wrong.

Other than that they are great cars. Thats very low miles for a 01.. i got mine with 21k on it and most people couldnt believe it. If it has low miles like that its probably been babied and garage kept.. FTW!

Good luck, these forums are great for some info on the car and the things you need to look for before purchasing one.

Personally I think those prices are kinda steep, these cars can be had for very cheap these days.

agreed^

You can find better prices or negotiate those. ARE they 180hp or 225hp? A 180HP should be cheaper than that for sure, it also seems the me that verts are cheaper than coupes. Good luck they're awesome cars!

^^^^ I'd go for the 05, especially if they are both the same HP model, and would hope those were 225s.

Default New TT Convertible

Thanks for all of the helpful info.
I'm leaning towards the 2001. The dealer is going to replace the timing belt, water pump, tensioner pulley, and has let me know that brakes are 90%+, new battery, new tires.

I have come across another listing locally for a 2001 TT convertible with 12k miles for 15k. It's not a Quattro. Just 2WD with a 180hp. Any comments about these TT's? Winter driving and power is obviously not going to be as good, but gas mileage is much better. Please post any thoughts.

Thanks again for the info.
