I dunno yet

I'll bet the chunk of weight I lost has its advantages somewhere

Mine didn't have it. The wing and weight came from a stability issue, oversteer that resulted in a recall of the 2000 QC, they also changed the MK1 control arms. Later years they added the weight as well to counter perceived handling issues.

hmmm i might have to look into this i got rid of me rear seat stuff a year ago and still trying to lighten her up just want a nice balanced 50/50 im not sure removing weight from the rear is such a good idea tho...the front already has enough weight as it is idea is to have the rear have a little more weight than front understeer =bad

I have a 2000 and i have the weight. I noticed no real change in the handling of the car. Also, im sure it served some purpose, but i cant really see what it was "countering" since it is tucked on the drivers side where the extra weight is already with the driver and battery. If anyone is really that worried about understeer, just get a rsb and you will be more than fine

I think they added the rear counterweight due to the Audi TT 60/40 weight distribution.
Nosedives during heavy braking and possibly loss of control. They tried to make the new 08TT's a bit more ballanced with lighter alloy parts in the front but it's still a good 54/46 split. So if you can it would be better to reduce the weight in the front rather than the rear. How about a battery relocation to the trunk. I am sure that can easily be done. I may have to look into that

Just about all front engine cars are atleast 60/40, only cars like the MX-5, Lotus', and other "handling" cars are 50/50 balanced. But relocating the battery to the trunk is what i was also thinking a few days ago since it would help balance the car more but i dont know if it would be really worth the effort as opposed to just installing a 15lb braille battery.

Extend the steering wheel and pedals, remove the front seats and reposition yourself in the back seat. Perfect 50/50. Easy As Pie.

Doin the seat delete and weight removal got me ready for more modding. I just finished my version of a rear platform that comes from the rear all the way to where the bench was. I put a piano hinge in and then extended the platform further, with an angled cap that matches the angle of the small vertical section going from the floor of the car to where the bench was sitting. It flips up for a secret storage area. It's finished with some black carpet from the car audio store. Looks factory. Needs a bit of reinforcing, but I got the shape and fitment I wanted.
