I'm trying to take off my shift ****. The entire shifter turns counter clockwise. I've had the **** off before, but I think I overtightened it. Was I suppose to push down when I turn? How the he'll is the shifter turning? This can't be good.

All i can think of is to loosen the big silver ring (black in your case).
Then you can lift it up, grab the shift rod with a vice grip, and thread the **** off.

 

exactly. the shaft shouldn't move, get something on it so it stays put.

 

I think im gonna use a pipe wrench. Im not looking forward to taking the shift ring off again tho. Its pretty tricky since i need to try not to scratch the new paint.

 

you wouldnt have to worry about that if you didnt paint it

 

or if you never reinstalled it to begin with.

 

you could put a layer of electrical tape around it first. the tape will be sticky enough to transfer the force from the wrench and protect from scratching/marking.

 

The wrench won't touch anything that can be seen...

 

I agree. I think I just needs 2 sets of hands. 1 to hold the wrench tight, and 1 to crank the **** out of the shift ****.
