Sirius/XM Receiver... Where did you mount it?
I'm looking at all the different receivers for Sirius and XM and service aside I can't figure out which receiver to use and where to mount it. The only idea that I have come up with is to remove the ashtray and find a receiver that i will fit in that area and still have room for it to close. So, my options are very limited. If you have one please share where you mounted it and, if you can, add some pics.
Thanks,
Brian

def. stick with sirius.
I have a slightly older sat. receiver, I wanted to get one with a red backlight to it, to match the car. It took me some time, and a bunch of dremel work, but mine is in the hidden console with the hatch/fuel cap buttons. Its mounted on a hinge, with a CPU cooling fan under it. The idea was to be able to flip it forward to have access to most of the storage compartment if i needed, but flipped back, it leans at about a 45° so its easy to read. I used the cooling fan because the unit gets pretty hot in the summer, and then the display freezes. That stopped once I started moving some air across the back of it. I'm hardwiring it into the radio, so using a small toggle switch and a relay, I'll be able to cut into the line to the CD changer. Now my 'mode' button does radio--tape--cd/sat depending on the relay position.
Got the idea, and instruction from 'justjeff' on audiworld, heres the link http://www.loomknitting.com/auditt/auxin1.html

Has anyone tried buying the Audi factory Sirius receiver and going that route? I have a 2000 TT with the older style headunit, and am in the market for the 04+ satellite ready factory headunits. I saw OEM Sirius recievers going for $100 on ebay. This way you wouldn't need the bulky sirius interface and have to find a mounting solution. Is there any problem you guys foresee going this route?
I meant something like this OEM Audi Sirius Receiver
Scroll down to the pictures and click on the one that looks like it came out of a service manual. I wanted to buy a Concert II radio that was satellite ready and buy one of the metal receiver boxes that Audi uses so that I could interface directly through the Concert II instead of using a Sirius interface. I haven't completely looked into yet, but has anyone tried this or thinking of trying it? Is it more work than necessary? I kind of like the idea of no Sirius interface taking up space, but apparently they have gotten pretty small recently.

Thanks for all the thoughts and insight. I'm still not sure which way I'm going to go but the thought was proposed about installing it in the medical storage and using a remote. As long as I have everything preset and don't want to see what's on it's fine but I would rather it be in the front. A loose, non mounted, option was also proposed and just laying it in the storage under the ash tray and pulling it out when I want but I'm not sure. Thanks again!
