Hey... my brother is a machanic so i let him do my oil change for my 02 TT. he took off the plastic skid plate(i believe thats what its called)to drain the oil but did not place it back on correctly... the plate got damaged as i was driving... now it wont snap back on... my question is,do i need it? what is it's purpose? if i need to buy another one where can i get one and for how much? Thanks!

 

it will protect the underside of your engine and i believe it also helps with aerodynamics

 

Idont have it on mine.I think the same happened to mine before i bought it. So you are fine without running it, but like said above you'll get some lift in the front and are more at risk for some rocks to damage things. The lift is only really felt once your above 70mph.

 

hmmm... i should look into getting one then... because i go over 70 just about every time i drive it....i have to see where i can get one...hopefully it wont cost an arm and a leg...thanks guys

 

its really not that bad. But i have look around a little and havent found one. Im think i might just get some aluminum and cover it myself. All it will take is some measurements and time really.

 

they are very expensive 260 bucks from the dealer...also they seem not to have the ones for the 2000-2004 only the 3.2s skid cover. they are very similar and will fit but not a perfect fit...i had to modify mine to fit the way i wanted it to.

 

In that case a fabbing i will go. Thanks for the info. I really need to get my car more planted (worn suspension sucks). While im at it, i might aswell make a splitter and make it a 2 for 1 deal.

 

The "Skid Plate" serves most as a sound insulation panel.. But FYI here is a parts list for the panel and the hardware that holds it in...

Does the skid plate cover the whole length of the car, or just the front end?
