Default smoke from engine

Yesterday, I started the car uo and it was a little rough on idle, it had some smoke coming from the rear of the engine, almost seemed to be where the turbo was. Also I get a fluttering sound when I get up into boost. Any ideas on what it could be. Do you think the turbo needs rebuilt. I have 120k on it.

could be the turbo needs a little refresher, could also just be some oil burning that got out

^ oil from the valve cover leaking. Next chance you get, look at the block and see if there is oil covering parts of it. The oil leaks out and then burns off causing the smoke. If the turbo was bad, it would be smoking out the exhaust, not in the engine bay

i always like to ask white blue or black but it isn't coming out the exhaust

it could be oil leaking from the valve cover and burning off on the exhaust or the hot side of the turbo. It could even be a bad oil feed line or return line for the turbo. those can leak onto the dp and burn off...

Hey I hate to steal your thread but I have more or less the same problem. Theres smoke when I pop the hood. Now I've read all the replies and all but Im not convinced and heres why: When I seafoamed the car through a vacuum tube and had some gas it, I could see more white smoke coming out the engine bay. My guess is that vacuum tube leak or maybe some trouble with the EGR valve. Im not sure. I did however have a check engine light on for the EGR valve, had it reset and its gone.
