IMO, newer cars don't require their oil changed at 3k unless it's been driven hard. I also drive a lot of short distances, and change my oil around 4.25k or so. However, this is with a higher end oil filter as well.

My cadillac had a meter that would actually calculate when the oil needed to be changed based on your driving style, temp, distance, ect (would say: 63% oil life remining). I was disipointed when I realized the audi didn't actually calculate when the oil needed to be changed (just 10k after the reset). At least the audi doesen't requre 8 qrts if oil.

 

nope, 5-7k will be fine. Where/what are you buing thats $10/qt? Mobil1 0w40 syn is ~$6

 

Mobil15w30 is what the receipt says... 5qts for 49.95. 3.40 for the oil filter.
The last time I had my oil changed (a few days ago) they tried charging me for 6qts of oil. I get my oil changed there often and I had my last receipt which said they used 5qts. I complained and they only charged me for 5qts. I dont understand the inconsistency. I should really change my own oil but sometimes have no time. Plus their oil changes come with a free car wash
