Default Starter needs to be replaced....how much? DIY?

Hey guys,

My starter is believed to be going bad, I found one on ebay (OEM) for $140. I'm wondering if this is something I can do myself? ...or if this is something the dealer has to do?

Also if the dealer does have to do it...any idea on how long it should take them?

Thanks guys!

DIY Replacement $140 is a good price jump on it. A Remanf is $325

1. Depends upon how mechanically inclined you are. For me most likely less than 4 hours.

2. See 1 above.... if you don't think you can do it, then take it to the shop. Did you read the instructions?

And fix your sig....

it is a very easy job. when i did my clutch that was one of the steps because that is what turns the flywheel when you start the car.

Thats why i think mine is going bad, because when i start my car on cold mornings....it rubs a little bit (the fly wheel) it doesn't sound like the starter is dis-engaging quickly enough.

a word of caution here ( is the ignition key springing back when you turn it ) if not the starter motor will stay engaged thus burning it out this means ignition barrel is on its way out and it seems a common problem

Would anyone have any suggestions as to what I should replace first?

I just know it makes a god awful sound for a second after I start it in the morning when its cold...

when the car is warmed up...no problems...just straight ...feeeeeeeeerum!

you could try spraying some lubricant on the release mechanism on the starter motor but a removal and grease is best that way you can see if there is damage to the ring gear/teeth, you would know if the ignition was sticking I hope
