Default Stock Stereo Re-Install

After getting my in-dash in place with power and searching aroundI found/was toldthat there was no harness that is exact for my 2001 TT. In time I will get aroundthe speaker issue by goingthrough the RCA's and an amp. Till than I put back the stock stereo. After plugging it back in the stereo started playing music without going into SAFE mode. I thoughtI would have to struggle with it a couple times trying to set the code but that didn't happen. My question is, is the stock stereo suppose to run while the car is off? It has been a couple weeks since it was in and I only have had the car for 2-3 months, so I don't remember. Just wanted to make sure I re-installed correctly. THNX.

Yeah you can listen to the radio for an hour with the car off.
