strut mounts front
hey everyone. just bought an 04 tt 225Q cpe 6spd black/black. took me 3 months of searching to find one in good shape. i got a cpo warranty, and an extended warranty from my credit union. basicly, i cant do a whole hell of a lot to it for 100k miles. the strut mounts have a ton of play in them, and i tried to get the prics at "prestige" to fix them. they gave me the old "working to standards" bullshit. anybody else have any suggestions to this issue? or are having similar problems? also, what would you guys suggest be my limit in regards to performance mods and my warranty. keep in mind, that my extended warranty isnt through audi. so im not gonna have anyone that knows **** doing my warranty inspections. since im trying to be discreet about my mods, everything is going to be black as well.it already has an apr 93 chip and a black forge DV. thanks for the good site.

At 100K the stock suspension is pretty well worn out. In particular the Strut Bearing #6 and Strut Bushing #5 are the most likely culprits. Since you have to disassemble the front suspension to replace them, you would be miles ahead by putting new struts/springs in or better yet get a set of coilovers front/rear.
And I'd probably give you a deal on a year old KMAC camber/caster kit for the front end (replaces all that crap above #7). I'm thinking I'll punch the strut right thru the top of the kit if I stiffen up the KWs' the way I hope to (thats a slight exaggeration). It's poly, so it's stiffer than stock, but I wanna upgrade to a spherical bushing/monoball/whatever you wanna call them.
Fine for street use, but I'm crossing over to the next 'realm'. XCLR8TT isn't gonna have the only tracked car on the forum anymore.

my favorite part in changing my front strut mounts was finding the 21mm wrench i had to special order and wait 2 weeks for it to show up. Ive had crappiest luck with my 01 audi tt AWP 1.8t FWD with 81k miles. Its been on jack stands for two weeks lol, the sway bar went, driverside wheel bearing, both strut mounts, driver side tie rod, and both sway bar links.. audi quoted me way too much so i orderd the parts from Auto Part international.. a great help, while i was at it i changed the passenger side axle, and tranny seal. Which really was a bitch because the tools i had to invest in made it a 1000 dollar job. I read a few posts on wheel bearings earlier.. i still dont know why every one used a press. **** i bought a ball pein hammer anda huge socket and banged the **** in (for future ref and anyone interested) workds fine. lol. Good luck with the mounts.. im a suspension pro after this job any questions ask. Lata. But i do got one Q, i was planing on using just regular high temp grease to lube the strut mount, that a problem??
Its a problem if your struts get hot enough to need that!
BTW, I used a press for the wheel bearing, and still almost couldn't get it. When it cut loose, it sent the ***** out of the bearing rocketing across the shop floor. I NEVER would have got it with a hammer.
Oh, and an impact gun works great for taking the suspension apart.

i only have 48k miles on my car. not 100. its a pretty virgin car. do you think the strut mounts should be a warranty item? and what mods do you think i can get away with? intake? exhaust, suspension? what are the thoughts?
what should i lube it with?, and i got it in took alotta hammering, and yes i did lose the *****, but i cleanned n regreased them. and im a small guy guess i just know how to work my tools lol, i did get a little help from a big guy and a big hammer, it seems to be working fine.
You can 'get away with' anything you don't want warrantied anymore. Unless you do something to your car that obviously screws it up, aftermarket parts shouldn't affect your warranty as a whole. See: Magnuson-Moss Act.
Eg; you lower your car, and then your engine blows. Dealer can't say the springs caused the engine to go, you're engine would still be under warranty. But, put a big turbo on your engine, and then your engine blows, well, it could very well have been the massive hair dryer you installed that blew the engine up. Your fault, you're f**ked.
