from synthetic to regular oil ok? or bad?
hi guys last time i changed my oil on my tt 107k miles i went fancy and put synthetic oil...but now i realize how expensive it is and was wondering if it is ok to go back to regular high mileage oil which is what i used before..
some people say its bad some people say its not a problem?
need opinions if some one has done it and if it was ok to do it...
thanks

Its fine.. the peeps who say different either know nothing, or are from the 50's when it did kinda matter... If it really bothers you, you could use a Syth Blend oil for this change then go to Dino oil later.

You do realize that these are turbocharged cars that run at a high temp and high compression ratio? Dino based oils will not protect nearly as long or as well. Not to mention are one of the reason why these motors are known to sludge and cause engine failure when it plugs the oil pickup.
Plus if you can do simple math, you can run shitty oil for 3k miles or run the proper oil for 8k like most of us. Guess what, they cost about the same in the end yet i wont have to worry about my engine going to **** nor do it more that twice as often.
Cincy.. I do understand.. but at the same time its not 'magic'.. he's been running dino for who knows how long.. he wants to run it again... I figure thats ok. Scaring the poor bugger now after 107k miles will do no good...
Besides, I thought he was asking more about the BS thats floating around the net about how your engine will mysteriously 'explode' if you switch from synth to dino or vise-versa..
Should he be using Synth? Sure... does he have to, nope...

If you switched from dyno to synthetic you're probably going to want to change it before the suggested 8k or whatever it is.. It gets nasty quickly if you make that switch. I'd stick with synthetic though. The cost / mile isn't much more unless your shop is jacking up the price.

Stop being so dramatic.
Synthetic oil may be more expensive than conventional, but replacing a turbo is more expensive than synthetic.
This is like one of the 10 commandments of turbo cars. Thou shall not use dino oil...
Look guys.. he wasnt asking (I believe) if he should, or should have always, run Synth... Looks to me he was asking if you can switch from Synth to Dino, which you can.
Thats all...
You guys are the ones telling him his engine or turbo will fail..
Me? dramatic?... Whatever
