Timing belt replaced.. Easy!!!
Hi all of you TT people.
I finally replaced my TT timing belt yesterday. It took me 6.5 hours from the begining to start up the engine.
I manufacture an engine support made out of electrical straut beam and a threade rod, 3/8-16 for lifting the engine purposes. It worked graet.
I found few surprises along the way.
The timing betl was in perfect condition.
The water pump had two blades broken off, riding inside the pump impealler compartment.
The tensioner had a bearing almost comming out loose( bearing in the idler).
The tensioner pulley(bearing) was not smooth as the new one. It felt like it had sand in it.
As I was pulling the water pump, one of the impeller pieces that broke off got cough between the outside of the impeller and the engine bore. Hard to pull it out.
I belive that if the pump were not replaced, the new timing belt would have gone out if the water pump fail due to the broken pieces, or if any of the bearings would have failed, this would have caused the timing belt to fail as well.
So if you check your timing belt and it looks ok, make sure you check the other components as well. It could save your engine.
My car did not have any problemsbefore that, what leads me to belive that it would have fail if I did not replace these components
