Default How to tell if timing belt has been replaced

I just bought a 2000 Audi A4 with 140,000 miles the car came with some dealer service records but nothing that says the timing belt has been changed.I tried to call the dealer that had done the service for the last owner but the dealer is out of business. Anyone know how to tell if the timing belt has been changed.

I would try and pull a carfax report on the vin as well. It is not 100% certain though but some will say timing belt service and some will just say service performed.
The main thing is if your unsure change it. There is no way to tell. I know it my suck but it is better to spend $800 to $1200 then $5,000 after it breaks.

if there is no reciepts and the dealer cant tell you, assume it needs to be done and do it. like interceptor said its worth spending the money now over spending 5x as much if it breaks.
