You would have too buy the whole glove compartment no kits that I know of

Also, I'm not sure that 225/50-17 would make much of a difference over 225/45-17 other than increase sidewall. The car was designed around the latter tire size therefore, by manufacturing standards, is the optimal size. Although, it's definitely an acceptable size. What is the particular reason if you don't mind me asking?

i put 205-50-17 mich pilot exalto A/S on my 01 TT, less weight, less cost, and a little more sidewall to protect wheels from penna. potholes! very happy with the results, i added motorsport-tech 25 + 30 mm spacers to my factory 7.5" fat fives for a good look

No no no, there is totally a glove box fix. It's pretty easy... I did it. Here's the link. I had to fill the hole under the latch itself with jb weld because there was too much play with the set screw, then re-drill the hole out smaller. But all in all this guide worked for me. Just make sure you fit the latch in the piece, mark your hole to drill, drill a small dimple, re-allign, and drill while holding the latch so it doesn't come out all crooked. It's a job, but it totally works.

oh, and all you need are the set screws unless your tabs do not retract by themselves. If you just broke off the latch you can ignore like 80% of the guide, you only have to do the set screw part like I did.

the biggest tire we have put is a 245/40/18 and I do not suggest that. LOL
