Ok.. I have a 2003 180 FWD automatic 6 tiptron. I plan on getting my car close to 350hp
I was told that my transmission won't hold that power. What can I do to make it hold that power! Please tell me its possible !

 

zero388 has a kinetic 50trim kit on his car. He has had some issues but the trans should hold the power. Only downside is that most times the trans will shift before you peak in power.

 

Don't APR chips let the trans (in tiptron) shift at higher rpms?

But other than not shifting at peak power my tranny will take that kinda power/torq

 

Im sure they can change the shifting points. Yes, it should hold the power. Talk to him about it, he did the research about power and upgrades.

I haven't been able to find an exact answer about how much power the tiptronic transmission will hold, but I do know that the more power and torque you are making the sooner your trans will break. If you want to make 350hp and not have any transmission problems you are going to need to get your trans rebuilt, there are two companies I have found that will do this Caltransproducts and IPT. Would it be cheaper to rebuild or just swop for a 5speed maual. I know some people roll there eyes about switching over to manual
but switching clutches is easyer then having to rebuild the tranny every so often

 

If you get the trans rebuilt that should be the last you worry about it for a long time. I have looked into swapping for a manual and it is a lot more complicated that you would think. You can't just get a manual from a TT, you have to get one from a fwd jetta or similar and you would have to get a different ECU as well for the new tranny. From what I have found it would be much cheaper and easier to just rebuilt the tiptronic.
