Default Transponder programming

I just bought a used 2001 TTR. Also, I purchased an uncut key with a transponder that matches the FCC numbers on my original key. Are there instructions available for me to add the my new key to my car?

Thanks,

By TTR, I meant TT Roadster. From Google I see some people mentioning using vagcom or vagtacho to add/set new keys into the car. However, I've never seen the full instructions. I and just checking to see if anyone has experiences here with it.

Good question, has anyone ever programmed one of these key FOBs on their own?

I think there is a sequence of steps you must do. I'm not 100% sure but its some like; with car unlocked press and hold lock button for a certain amount of seconds, then open the door, insert key and turn ignition to the on position, and so on ..... I'll look around real quick to see if I can find an answer.

Second response by cityjohn has another set of instructions

EDIT: After re-reading your post, I see that the new key is uncut. The dealer will need to cut the key by vin for you. I read somewhere it's anywhere from $50-100 to have this done, and they will program it for you after cutting the key. Just drive the car there, (with the key you have that works obviously) and have it all done at once.

programming/Synchronizing the FOB is simple as mentioned above by Dozanti. Here are the steps:

1) get an existing key (with transponder your car recognizes) an insert in to the ignition
2) turn it to the "ON" position without starting the key
3) Open the driver's side window
4) stand outside of your car and insert your new key into the driver's side door
5) turn your key towards the rear and let go, your car will lock
6) press the unlock button on your new FOB and watch your side markers flash once
7) wait 10 seconds
8) press the unlock button on your new FOB and the door should now unlock
9) take keys out and test the newly programmed FOB

What I am really asking about is how to get the car to recognize a new transponder on the key head portion of the key. I want to be able to start my car without the ECU shutting it off. Anyone?
