just drivin along... then WHAM! car jerks and throws me like i slammed on the brake but it was the engine... EPC light and that triangle hazard thing or whatever.. hard to explain, but it sucked...

I would think a bad injector, spark plug, carbon build up, or specific to the individual cylinder. Since its their to prevent detonation, might not be smart, but I would imagine you could swap cylinder components, ie, the plug, the coil pack to locate the problem. Piston edge could have an issue, or even a loose part near the sensor could be being interpreted as pinging. I assume you are running the right mpg and that this was not during a boost spike, but for background, theres a little paragraph at http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByDepartment/Knock_Sensor
