I would think a bad injector, spark plug, carbon build up, or specific to the individual cylinder. Since its their to prevent detonation, might not be smart, but I would imagine you could swap cylinder components, ie, the plug, the coil pack to locate the problem. Piston edge could have an issue, or even a loose part near the sensor could be being interpreted as pinging.
