This seems to be the same top that everyone is selling on Ebay but yours is indeed the lowest price I have found.

Just a few questions guys.

Im just wondering if there is anyone in the community that has installed this top. Is it worth the money? Or should I just wait to find aused OEM replacement? Theres an OEM one on ebay right now for 700 bux.

My roadster has the automatic top. Has anyone installed a top (no matter which brand) on one of these? I am an experienced mechanic but I have not really looked into how the open/close mechanism works. Im just wondering if it is really difficult, or what is easy to break. Any writeups/drawings would be helpful.
Replacing all the mechanisms that control the top is a huge job. Fortunately you only have to replace the canvas top. Actually, if I understand your post correctly, you only really need to replace the rear window. If it were me, I would exaust all options at replacing only the window before spending that much money for the entire top.
I dont think I've ever heard/read of anyone able to replace just the rear window. Something to do with the way its installed in the top. DO IT RIGHT! $400 isn't too much money. I've read that the ebay tops aren't a perfect fit but can we worked to look good.

Replacing only the glass has always been my preferred option because Id much rather have my OEM stuff.

Now I know I can just remove the canvas and apply3m weatherstrip adhesiveto the fabric perimeter that is attached around the glass to glue in a replacement glass.

My original plan was to first glue that small fabric perimeter (surround) to the replacement glass and apply clamps for pressure. Afterwards I was gonna set the canvas top on a table and glue in the glass with the surround and apply pressure with something heavy like sacks of sand or something. The last step would of course be reinstallation.

All this is nice and dandy but I could never find a replacement glass only.Believe meIv'e spoken to all the people on the web. Thats why I was talking about getting plexiglass, lexan, etc to make a new window my self.

The new top option is not bad though if you guys say they are worth the 400 bones.

Still if I could find a window only, I would ****** it up.

My siblings where playing around with a slingshot in the driveway and where jokingly pointing it at the car. [:@][:@]
Problem is that I don't have comprehensive insurance or full coverage. Liability coverage only.
ok... make your siblings pay

Buying anything on eBay is a crap shoot. A real replacement top will run you from $800 on up. That's why I was suggesting replacing only the window. I would try an upholstery shop, junk yard, sail makers, glass installers, body shop, etc. To save >$800, I would make a lot of phone calls. There has to be a way to replace the window by itself. Give it a try. There are a lot of options if you could do without the defogger.

Ohh yeah my sister is paying since she did it. I'm trying to find the best option tho.

I don't need the defogger so if it comes down to it, Ill just cut a piece of some clear polymer material. I can use that fabric surroundas my template. I still have to rip that thing off of the top, but its got a buch of glass still in it. I guess might as well get-er done.

Ill call those junk yard guys that replied to my online request, theysay the have the window.

I just sent messages to two vendors on ebay that sell lexan brand polycarbonate sheets. Its the stuff they make hobby grade radio control car bodies out of. That stuff is extremely resistant to everything and very clear. and you can't beat the price for stock sheets of approximate size ( < $30). Not to mention lighter than glass = lower CG.LOL

They have 1/4 inch thick stock sizes, I think that will fit. Theglass is more like 3/16 of an inch thick tho.

I asked them if theycan make custom shapes for meif they have the necessary powerful laser. I have access to someones 60 Watt CO2 CNC laser machine butI don't think it's powerful enough to cut that.

I like this idea if they can make the shape because I want to keep my stock top. Ill keep you posted with their response.

Does anybody know if the rear window on te roadster has a curve to it. I remember it being completely flat.

I'd appreciate it if someone with a roadster would go check and tell me. Thanks in advance
