Angry The TT stopped being fun to drive

I was leaving work today and the car started running like crap. It was really rough and the check engine light was flashing on and off then finally stayed on. I could not give it much gas or the car felt like it was going to fall apart. It idled rough and felt like it was dying. I checked the codes and they were;

P1113- O2?
P0300-random misfire
P0302-misfire cylinder 2
P0304-misfire cylinder 4

I put on new coil packs (E revision) about a month ago but I doubt all of them or all the plugs went bad at the same time.

I went to the store to get some BKR7E plugs (got a KO4) but nobody had them in stock. Nobody carries the O2 sensor either. The auto parts store says the O2 sensor for the TT is $230+ and they can order it but it will take several days, they said there is a universal for $70, but I would have to cut the connector off my old one and splice it together. Does that sound right?

I took the plugs out when I got home and they all look ok. I did a compression check and all cylinders were 150 psi. The coil packs are new.

The auto parts guy said that if the car is cold the computer does not look at the O2 sensor for 1 minute. So if it is running rough in that 1st minute then the problem is not the O2. Is this right? It runs rough from the time you start it.

I also unplugged the MAF to see if it would change how the car is running but it did not. There was a momentary hesitation when I unplugged it but went right back to running rough.

I don't hear any vacuum leaks. I moved around all the wires and hoses to see if there was something loose or not connected but found nothing.

Mods include KO4 turbo, APR diverter, APR chip, Forge silicon tube.

Any ideas?

the 02 sensor code may be from the unburned exhaust gasses passing through the exhaust when the cylinders misfire..
Reset the codes, and swap coil packs from 1-2 and 3-4. When the code comes back, see if it is a misfire on 1 and 3. If so, it's definitely the coil packs. if not, and it is still 2 and 4. Buy any of the available plugs to get you by (autolite, etc..), at least for the troubleshooting, until you can find some bkr7e's.

..also, make sure the gap of the plugs are all correct? I'm not sure how effective that would be, but if a plug is starting to go, and the gap is incorrect, the quality of the spark needed will suffer.

just some thoughts man good luck!!

It could also be the coil pack harness. Take a good look at the wiring harness and look for any exposed wires.

You were told correctly on the O2 sensor, the universal is MUCH cheaper. Just make sure you get the right one. Early cars are narrow band, later years are wideband. Here is my how-to on changing the front one (the rear one is ONLY used to determine CAT health):

Sorry I have been out of town and not able to work on this. I bought some BKR7E NGK plugs but that did not fix the problem. I also bought an O2 sensor but before I put it in I wanted to make sure the problems was not caused by the coil packs, so I put the old coil packs back on and sure enough that was it. Car started to run great. I guess I should not buy coil packs on EBay anymore. My old ones were the Hitachi's, I'll look for another set of those next time.

Car is fun again. Thanks for the help.
