My only advice (considering I just bought mine...) is you may be able to find one cheaper. Mine had 67k with the timing belt done and new tires and brakes (pads and rotors) for $8,800. I know all areas are different but just keep your eyes peeled and check often! Oh and see if the coil packs have been replaced. They seem to be something that goes too. I believe they are about $32/ coil to replace (if you do it yourself).

On a Z3 note, I was looking at those too and found that they had a big subframe issue. Not sure if you are aware of that. You may want to look into it. Also, BMW doesn't really warranty that issue.

The TT is a great car... just be aware that many of the early TTs have or are having instrument cluster issues. Typically the newer the TT the better. Great cars though! 1000x more car than a Z3. Driving a Z3 is like driving a go cart. Go carts are fun but you are buying a car not a go cart. If you must go BMW a Z4 would be much better.

The BMW Z3 has subframe issues?? LMAO!!! HAHAHA

He is right.... I have the cluster issue. Not a big deal though... I know my speed based on gear and RPM's. Plus my digital, when i reset it, tells me the speed.

It does and for the most part BMW doesnt want to acknowledge the problem... They also repair it only one time (if even that) and its back to factory which guarantees it will happen again... The only fix so far is this guy who makes "kits" to fix it. BMW doesn't authorize it and won't use it though. But he has seemed to have found the solution.

well i bought a 2001 TT 225 6s roadster 106K its Red with black interior, it has all the services up to date and for 8k this one already had the instrument cluster and coil packs replaced by the dealer. will post pics when i get back into town.

After driving both the TT and Z3 it really made me appreciate how nice the TT really was over the Z3 the interior Quality of the TT was way better and just the overall feeling of the car was better.

Here is a post I did for a buddy of mine that was looking for more info and I found some solutions. A bad cluster is definitely not the end of the world.
