When my turbo is spooling, It sounds like it's crying, begging me to stop beating it. It sounds like a fluddering whistle... I have no engine cover, and everything under the hood is stock.

I have always had this, so not sure if it's normal or not. But it's kinda loud, and I can't image my same car with no miles on it would sound like it. I have 60K miles BTW

TIA

Take a photo of your intake hose. Like a aerial shot of the whole top right side of your bay.

whistle - good
dentist drill - bad.

You may want to take a look at your compressor wheel with the tip off and also check for play (side-side and in-out)

if you have a boost leak, you might be over spooling.

I think it's a leak... Every now and then I'll get a loss of power. I'll get a pic of the engine bay tomorrow. Where should I go to check if theres a leak? Anyone know a good place in Long Island, NY?

Thanks

If you have a boosts gauge and you can see that you're not boosting right than you prob have a leak. I'd try going through your engine bay and check all the connections. Maybe try cleaning the throttle body and cleaning it. or you can do the compression test if you have a place to go.

I had the exact problem and it turned out to be where the wastegate was mounted on the turbo was falling apart from rust and i had to replace the whole turbo.

Check the outlet pipe. I had the same problem and it was my turbo outlet pipe leading out of the right side intercooler pipe. The clamp just fell off. That would be the first thing to check because its the easiest.

Problem is, the turbo can sometimes overcome the volume its losing. You'll still hit normal boost numbers, but your turbo will be working like a dog to do it (overboost).

buy/build a boost tester. can be as simple as a PVC fitting with a tire valve stem stuck in the end, or like I did, use a quick disconnect air fitting attached to a 20 turn regulator and a pressure gauge.

look at the pressure tester on modshack.info for ideas
