Turbo Timer - Waste of $$?
I've heard a few stories on Turbo Timers but haven't heard this forum's take on it.
A friend from california said he had lost some boost so he took it to the stealership and said that he didn't warm down his car before he turned it off. (huh?) So, dealership reset the ECU and he claimed his power was back... but
I was at the Audi Stealership (here in hawaii) picking up a coil pack, which is the only place on the island that had 'em, so I asked the parts guy about turbo timers and he said it was a waste of time/money.
I've already spent a few grand just to get my TT in good working order and I don't really want to spend unnecessarily. Last thing I'm getting is a Boost Gauge and a new Intake. Then I think it's all maintenance from there.
So, is it a waste of time? Thanks.
PS - and as for intake Modshack VTDA, TTDA or Neuspeed?

Turbo timer is there to keep oil pumping to the turbo for a bit so it cools down instead of just shutting off the car and letting a hot turbo cook the oil.
Thing is, unless you like to drive your car 'fast and furious' style EVERYWHERE you go, the normal driving 99% of us do before pulling in the driveway is enough to get the turbo to a reasonable temperature, so, in that respect, its a waste of money.

But the coolent isnt what cakes in the turbo, oil does as Matt said above. Having it watercooled helps bring the turbo to a lower temp faster, but you still should let it idle a bit after reaching your destination. As long as you are easy on the car the last min or two of the trip you can just let it go for about 10-20sec, if you have in boost and driving hard, you should give it 30-40secs. Now if you have oil cooled only, you really should invest in a turbo timer since you should let it sit for 30-1min reguardless of how you were driving.

IMO they are NOT a waste of money...mine for instance is good for many other reasons....volt-meter,A/F ratios, o2 sensor voltage, and of course the autotimer feature(calculates based on your settings how long it should let the car idle) and has an ebrake kill switch feature so no one jacks your ride while its running
only complaint is that your keyless entry wont work while the car is running. so you have to use the key manually to lock the door
