Default turbo troubles, please help

Hello,

Here is what is wrong with my 2002 audi tt 180 Quattro; after driving it for extended periods of time the cars acceleration cuts out whenever I give my car too much gas. No check engine or warnings lights are on in the dash. I took it to the dealership and they told me I needed a new turbo because "the rod to the waste gate was siezed" however, they called the next day and said while taking it apart, the rod freed up and it started working. The car drives fine until I drive it hard or take it on the expressway. The Audi dealership is still clueless as to what causes the sieze in power. My hypothesis is that there is a leak somewhere in one of the lines and the computer doesn't recognize it until I drive it somewhat hard, then the car puts the acceleration in to limp mode.

Since the audi dealership is clueless I am hoping that one of my fellow audi owners will have the expertise and knowledge to help me solve this problem so I can drive my car like it was meant to be drove
Thanks for the input!

If your wastegate arm froze, you wouldnt be able to make boost or stop making boost. So i dont buy that. There are couple things i think it could be:

Dying maf - unplug and if it runs better, its the maf
Heatsoak in - after a few good runs you will make less power since the ic cant lower temps anymore - it will feel like you lost 10-15hp when it happens
tiny boost leak - only noticable when the boost is above Xpsi. - get a boost gauge and find out

I do not have any modifications. Is there something I should ask if the dealership to check if I decide to bring it back? Thanks again for the feedback!

Do as i suggested above and find the problem yourself. Its only going to cost you some time and a boost gauge (which you should have anyways).

also, it isn't as much a loss of power. My ability to acellerate is stopped depending on how much gas I give it, for example if I floor it it will cut out. However, it has no stalled and this only happens after I drove it for awhile. It seems like the more I floor it when it is like this, the more it gets, which makes me thing it has something to do with the computer.

I was going to get a boost gauge to check, but the car drives fine and I can floor it all I want most of the time, it is just after awhile this starts happening. By the way my car is a 2002 with 34,000 miles on it.

Im 90% sure its just heatsoak. The only way to get rid of it is with a fmic or water/meth injection.

wow cincy you rock, I looked up heatsoak and that sounds like that is probably the culprit. How do I fmic or water/meth injection?

A front mount intercooler fmic is an aftermarket larger intercooler you can buy to lower the temp. Larger than stock and goes in front of you radiator. Water methanol injection is a 50 50 mixture held in a reservoir and the injected into your intake manifold to cool and clean the engine the methanol gives a little extra power because it produces a more powerful explosion.

fmic will cost you around 6-700 if you install it yourself

water/ meth injection can range a lot, kits are sold for 400, But you can DIY* by using your window washer reservoir and buying the necessary pumps and hoses and injectors.

*only recommended if you live somewhere without snow or a lot of rain, like Arizona.
