Unknown Issue
I recently bought an 04 audi tt that had some type of problem with the engine shutting down. The car starts and runs fine, sometimes for 1 min. and sometimes for an hr. or longer. I can't drive it anywhere because you never know how long before it shuts off. I have VCDS and get codes that say the ECU is intmittent or is not communicating (same with TCM) but I aasume thats because of the ECU. I got another ECU ( the right one) and a well quaified shop said the could retrieve the codes from the existing ECU and reprogram them into the replacement. I dropped the car off last week and finally went to see them today and they said the had worked through the cluster code and the immobilizer and what ever else they need to do but when ever they truned the key off it reverted back to the same dropout issues I had with the ECU to begin with. Can someone tell me somewhere to turn or something to try? I know it can be fixed but I need some idea what to do next.

i have an 01 and it's doing the same thing. it's really sketchy trying to drive it don't know when it's gonna act up.
on a side not when it does shut off, i just wait about 5-10 minutes and it starts right up and drives again but for how long?
any help please.

I just got my TT out of the shop. I had them install a used ECU and the mech. said he had problems re-coding the replacment ECU but once he got that figured out he was able to clear the DTC's. It's running good but now having a hard shifting problem. That's another issue. I'm going to drive it this way until it throws a CEL then work on that problem.
As a side note, you may try checking the loom that goes from the firewall to the pin plug on the ECU. I got two responses on the british forum that said they had the loom get chaffed through. That was an easy-cheep fix.

you didn't mention which tranny you have. If it's a tiptronic automatic, it could be that you're experiencing the beginnings of valve body failure. Rev Max sells a rebuilt and upgraded vb for the o9G tranny that cured my shift issues. Good Luck!
It's an 09G and you are correct....after alot of research I decided to rebuild the valve body.
I ordered a shift kit from Transgo and "meticulisly" did the nessesary steps in the rebuild proceedure. Put it back in....new ATF..did nessesary resets with my VCDS and "Viola"---Silky Smooth.
