Default Upgrade questions...

Hey everybody,

My 2001 TT 225 Quattro already has a couple performance mods...

APR 93 Octane chip, BMC CDA Intake, APR Catback Exhaust, B&M Short Shift

I'm looking at what to do next but am confused as this car is my first that's not a SUV...possibly an FMIC?

I've seen a bunch of members with Samco hoses, what are the benefits to adding those?

I've seen a bunch of info on K04 upgrades for 180hp TT's, but I'm wondering if there is any kind of upgrade for the 225hp that doesn't involve spending $6899 on an APR Stage III+...but as I'm learning, you get what you pay for with this German engineering.

Any help/answers/suggestions you guys have are much appreciated as I have fallen in love with my car, and have become horribly addicted to spending every penny I earn on it.

Thanks...

I would go with the turbo upgrade before the fmic. With the setup you have i dont think youd see the performance gain per dollar youd expect when going with the fm. You already have two side mounts that should do plenty well for all but the most extream powerplants.

i too have a beautiful black on black 2001 TT 225 and l love the car. just a quick question though do u like the bmc intake? did u get it from TTstuff.com? also does your engine sound like a little 4cyc 1.8 ? i mean does it sound kinda weird almost like a belt or a ticking sound when it idles? i'm not used to such small engines and was just wondering if somthing is wrong with my tt or thats just the way it supposed to sound? i bought the forge dv valve and the modshack.info carbon fiber intake similar to the BMC. cant wait to install them

ticking sound is probably the fuel injectors. get right down next to them, you'll know it. no problem, thats just what they do.

The intake will do nothing for you man, i would advise that you not waste the money on it and the ebay intercoolers that are 200 are junk man you dont wana put that **** on your car... and if your gunna go with an Elim turbo I wouldnt jsut replace the muffler Id re do the entire exhaust system you need at least 2.5 or bigger to run with that turbo and if you just replace the muffler its gunna have a bunch of restriction still

So a CAI intake that is the exact same thing as an injen CAI with the exact same K&N type filter injen used to get 10-15hp/torque is gonna do nothing? yea sure...I think you brain washed yourself into thinking a name brand means anything whatsoever when the parts are exactly identical. If the pipes are exactly the same and the filter says K&N having someone tell me it's a waste of money is just laughable when im saving 200 dollars by getting it instead of injen cai.

And im going custom 2.5 exhaust, getting the shop to weld one up to the catless downpipe i ordered.

And I stand by my original comment that you would have to be an idiot to pay $1200 for a forge or other intercooler. I can see the seller sitting there now saying "Thanks for the 3000% profit you idiots!!"

The CAI's are helpful during the summer time when the hot air takes away about 10hp due to the hight temps cuz they reroute your filter to an area that is getting cooler air. Thats why during the winter I can see a good gain in hp cuz the air is colder and that is what turbos want. So a CAI doesnt really give you more HP (maybe a few) but it does help in keeping you from losing some HP when the temps get higher. The HP gain in the intake is when you get rid of the restrictions by going bigger in the intake down to the turbo.
