Ok I am using VAG-COM 409.1 with a usb connection to OBD2 all communications appear and are fine, however the only controller I can't connect to is the airbags. When it attempts to connect to controller 15 it says unable to open controller or can't connect to controller.

Any ideas? Does anyone have a current diagnostic system, would a ELM327 connection provide more protocols?

Try an older version of vagcom. Used to be able to connect w/o a problem, and with the newer versions they have some procedure where you shut the car off for 30 seconds, and then key on again before it will connect. I have an airbag light, but it won't pull a code with the new versions. I need to get around to trying the old version myself.
