HELP! VCDS cannot communicate with Airbag controller!

HELP! VCDS cannot communicate with Airbag controller!
So I have a hard airbag light on the dash. My VCDS (old VAG-COM) can't communicate with the airbag controller.
Am I doing something wrong?
I also have ABS/brake lights on and VCDS can't communicate with ABS controller either. I'm thinking the ABS module is toast and will be sending it out for repair.
Any help is appreciated.
