wont trigger no lights... i got 5k 55watt HID's on mine

 

Wait so 10k is less bright than 4k? What exactly do the numbers stand for? Just brightness?

 

Degrees Kelvin. The higher the number, the more into the blue spectrum they get (incidentally, blue is a very bad color for visibility). Look at the luminosity ratings for different K ratings on HIDs. The higher the K temp, the less luminosity they have.

 

Stock cars have 4300k since that's the closes to sunlight.

 

It's actually 10,000K. Like ImTheDevil said, K standing for Kelvin, not the abbreviation for a thousand.

I've had 10,000k's back when I was a lil git and thought the purple/blue was cool. Well it's not cool, dare I say, "Ricer". Visibility sucks!

I have 8,000k's now with my stock halogen foglights and visibility isn't as bad, but I would definitely not recommend them. I'd say 4300-5000k are optimal for visibility and 6000k is probably the highest I would go when I buy new HID's.

I also have 3000k HID's for my foglights (not currently installed). They do a great job of cutting through rain and water on the ground. I do recommend them if you're in an area that gets a good amount of rainfall.

 

Not to be pedantic, but while we're on the subject, Kelvin is the unit. Unlike other temperature scale's there is no degree.

Other than that, I agree with all of these guys. 4300K-5000K max unless you're interested in not seeing at night.

 

3k would be kinda like the regular headlights you would see in the kinda yellowish color... 5k would be perfectly white in color... and 7k+ would start from light blue and go all the way up to purple.

 

Ol so if i just want bright clear hids go with 4000k or 5000k?

 

4300K for just white light.

 

3000k is VERY yellow.. Not really close to halogens. When you turn them on they're a bit green and warm up to yellow.
