01 a4, instrument cluster

Default 01 a4, instrument cluster

i have a 2001 a4 1.8t and my computer screen in the middle of my instrument cluster isnt working anymore. does anyone know about this or have seen this before? it still displays what it should but is unreadable.

mine works fine. but i guess its a really common problem on these cars!
i think the only way to fix it is to get a whole new instrument cluster...

I would check for a bad connection first, then see the above option if a bad connection is not the case.

My screen is going out too on my '99. I've done some reasearch and really the only way to fix it is to get a whole new instrument cluster/driver dash. It can be pretty spendy so make sure you get a few different quotes.

when you take it apart, there is a harness on top of the steering column right under the cluster. check that. also, many people have problems with pixels not showing up due to the heat. to solve that, people have replaced the super small wires on the harness to larger guage wires. that may solve your problem actually. so don't go buying a new cluster b4 you check those things.

how do you reset everything to match your cars specifics then? ie mileage ect.....

There is a procedure for this from VW/audi using the 1551/2. It's really sensitive and difficult, worse, you get 2 chances at getting it right before it's locked perminantly. Better to replace the failed part in the cluster with a known good one or, gasp... live with it.
